crafting accessible ebooks from start to finish
The following highlights my work in eBook production, where design meets functionality. I manage every step of the process after layout, from coding to validation and EPUB conversion, ensuring each title meets WCAG 2.0 AAA accessibility standards under the EAA. My workflow also includes timely uploads to Amazon KDP and CoreSource, with fully accessible files delivered two months ahead of publication.

These screenshots demonstrate the fixes I made in the code to ensure aesthetics were preserved from the print book as much as possible.

The book included comics, tables, and graphics, requiring thoughtful description. I chose not to use quotation marks in alt text due to early HTML rendering issues, and confirmed through research that this doesn’t affect screen reader performance. Since I inherited the interior file at a late stage, many adjustments were made post-export rather than in InDesign.

This was a special project I accomplished outside of the Book Publishing program. First, I accepted edits and deleted commentary within the MS word files, compiled, merged, and coverted them into an epub file, and began designing it from there. I was contracted 15 hours for this job, so I didn’t have the time to build things out in InDesign, but I managed to create hierarchy, add color, and stylize various exercise and example boxes throughout the book using CSS and HTML coding.
